Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Aura is an AI-powered dating confidence coaching service operated by Jean-Marc Oliveira, based in Lisbon, Portugal (contact: jeanmarc12@gmail.com). We are the data controller for personal data processed through this service.

2. What data we collect

• Name or nickname — provided during onboarding, stored locally on your device.
• Age group — one of four ranges (18–24, 25–34, 35–44, 45+), stored locally.
• Sexual orientation / dating preference — selected during onboarding. This is special category data under GDPR Article 9. We collect it only with your explicit consent and use it solely to personalise your coaching. It is stored locally on your device and sent to our AI provider to generate relevant responses. It is never shared, sold, or used for advertising.
• Conversation content — messages you send to Aura are processed by our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate responses. Conversation summaries may be stored locally on your device to provide persistent memory across sessions (Pro tier only).
• Payment information — processed entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
• Usage data — message count per day, XP points, session count. Stored locally on your device only.

3. Legal basis for processing

• Consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) and Art. 9(2)(a)) — for processing your orientation data. You provide explicit consent before this data is collected.
• Contract performance (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)) — for processing necessary to provide the coaching service you requested.
• Legitimate interests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) — for basic service operation and security.

4. How we use your data

Your data is used exclusively to:

• Personalise coaching responses to your age group and relationship context
• Maintain conversation continuity across sessions (Pro tier)
• Process payments for premium access
• Enforce daily message limits on the free tier

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond providing the service.

5. Data processors (third parties)

Transfers to the USA are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, as applicable.

6. Data storage and retention

Most data (name, age, orientation, conversations, XP) is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage — it never leaves your device except when sent to Anthropic for AI processing. Clearing your browser data deletes it permanently.

We retain data only for as long as necessary to provide the service. You can delete all your data at any time (see Section 8).

7. Cookies

Aura does not use tracking cookies. We use browser localStorage to store your preferences and session state. This is essential for the service to function and does not require consent under the ePrivacy Directive.

8. Your rights

Under GDPR you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of your personal data
• Erasure— delete all your data. You can do this immediately by clearing your browser's localStorage, or by contacting us
• Withdraw consent — for orientation data processing at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing
• Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
• Lodge a complaint — with the Portuguese data protection authority (CNPD, cnpd.pt)

9. Children

Aura is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used the service, please contact us immediately.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be communicated via a notice in the app. The date at the top of this page reflects the latest revision.
